Jason Kidd Named New Head Coach of Dallas Mavericks

Former NBA Star Returns to Coaching

June 28, 2021

The Dallas Mavericks have named Jason Kidd as their new head coach, the team announced Monday.

Kidd, a Hall of Fame point guard, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018. He spent 19 seasons in the NBA, playing for the Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns, and New York Knicks.

After retiring from playing, Kidd began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets in 2013. He was named the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2014 and coached the team for three seasons, leading them to the playoffs twice.

Kidd was fired by the Bucks in 2018 and has been out of coaching since then. He was considered a candidate for several head coaching positions during the 2021 offseason, but ultimately decided to join the Mavericks.
